Amendments and additions to the Law on the Organization and Work of State Administration Bodies

On June 8, 2024, the members of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia voted on the amendments and additions to the Law on the Organization and Work of State Administration Bodies (hereinafter referred to as “the Law”), which changed the number of ministries and implemented a change in the scope of competencies of some of the existing ministries in the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia.

With this Law, from the current 16 ministries and 20 members of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, 20 ministries have been organized and 24 members of the Government have been appointed. The new ministries are organized as follows

  • Ministry of Sports,
  • Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources,
  • Ministry of Public Administration, and
  • Ministry of Digital Transformation.

Besides the new ministries, the reorganization of existing ministries was carried out, for example, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs works has been reorganized into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also works external trade, the Ministry of Culture has been reorganized into the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the European integration sector in the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia becomes the Ministry of European Affairs issues.

The former Ministry of Labor and Social Policy has been transformed into the Ministry of Social Policy, Demography and Youth, and the Ministry of Political Affairs Systems and Intercommunity Relations is organized as the Ministry of Intercommunity Relations.

Compared to the number of ministers in the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, in the Government of the Republic of Slovenia and the Republic of Croatia there is a total of 17 ministers in the Government of the Republic of Montenegro there is a total of 18 ministers in the Government of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina there is a total of 16 ministerial positions, in the Government of the Kingdom of Spain there is a total of 22 ministers, in the Government of the Republic of Greece there is a total of 19 ministers.
